Toni Bernhard is a former law school professor and student of Buddhism whose life was changed by chronic illness. That experience forced her to take a closer look at impermanence and stress and suffering than she would have liked, but learning a new relationship to illness and suffering changed her life. She wrote an article that looks at the way she learned to respond to various forms of pain and suffering, and offers a practice that has helped her change her relationship to suffering, and to suffer less.
